Fire and Life Safety Inspection

The staff of the Fire Marshal 's Office is responsible for conducting inspections of all existing buildings other than one and two family dwellings.

The fire and life safety inspections are designed to help ensure that buildings are safe for occupancy and that all fire protection and safety equipment such as emergency lighting, fire sprinkler and alarm systems are properly maintained and functioning as designed. The use and storage of hazardous materials, hazardous operations, combustible storage, electrical safety, and emergency egress are among some of the other items reviewed during the inspections. The foundation of the program is the International Fire Code, which has been adopted by the Township.

Apartments, schools, day cares, assisted living and similar facilities are usually inspected annually, with other buildings being inspected every other year.
