Building Plan Review and Inspection

The Building Code Official is a member of the Safety and Code Enforcement staff and is responsible for reviewing all plans for new construction and alterations. These reviews are designed to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local building codes, standards and ordinances. The Building Code Official will perform periodic inspections of the construction to make certain that the work meets the required standards.

The township adopted the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC). The series of codes included within the UCC are:

  • International Building Code 2012 Chapter 11 & Appendix E - ICC A117.1 2009 Accessibility Code
  • International Residential Code 2009
  • NEC Electrical Coe 2008 NFPA 70
  • International Existing Building Code 2009
  • International Energy Conversation Code 2009
  • International Fire Code 2009
  • International Fuel Gas Code 2009
  • International Mechanical Code 2009
  • International Plumbing Code 2009

In addition, the Building Code Official performs all commercial use and occupancy inspections in conjunction with the Fire Marshal.

Hatfield Township's building code requires permits for all new buildings, additions and most alterations to existing buildings. The staff of the Safety and Code Enforcement is certified as plan examiners and inspectors in accordance with the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.
